Which players in the NBA, NFL and NCAA spent the most time on the court and field last season?
It’s not easy being a professional athlete in US sports - the hours spent training, travelling to games and playing stack up fast. When thinking about the most dedicated sports stars that have played the most time in-game, names of retired record-setting players like the NBA’s Kareem Abdul-Jabbar likely come to mind.
But what about the hardest working active players in professional sports? DRF Sports wanted to find out which are the hardest working players in US football and basketball, so analyzed each player based on the number of minutes and games played in the most recent full season.
To reveal the NBA’s hardest working athletes, DRF Sports analysed the number of minutes played by each player during the 2020-21 season. We included minutes from the regular season games and the playoffs.

Playing shooting guard for the Suns, Devin Booker played for 3,159 minutes during the 2020-21 season.
Since the Phoenix Suns and the Milwaukee Bucks played the most games in the 2020-21 season, making it to the finals, it’s not surprising to see the top-three hardest working NBA players coming from these teams.
The twice-named NBA All-Star was one of the Suns’ leading scorers this season before his recent hamstring injury which has left him unable to play in the last few games. Despite being temporarily sidelined, Booker has an impressive points per game average this season of 23.2.

DRF Sports wanted to find out which players across the NBA, NFL, NCAAB, and NCAAF worked the hardest in the most recent complete season.
Basketball
To reveal the US’ hardest working basketball players, DRF Sports totaled the number of minutes played by each NBA and NCAA Division I Men’s Basketball player during the 2020-21 regular season and playoffs/postseason. Information for the NBA players was sourced from Basketball Reference, while for the NCAA Division I Men’s Basketball League, information was sourced from NCAA Statistics.
The players were then ranked based on the amount of time they spent on the court.
Football
To find out the hardest working football players, DRF Sports looked at all players in the NFL and NCAA Division I Football Bowl Subdivision. Due to the lack of statistics published on minutes played by each player, and the limited amount of live-action gameplay during a football game, DRF Sports instead used the number of games played to determine the hardest working players. This indicated the number of games that players traveled to and prepared for, showing which football players are the hardest working.
Games from the regular season and postseason of the NFL were accounted for. For each player in the NCAA Division I Football Bowl Subdivision the total number of games played during the regular season was recorded. For players who played 2 or more games during the bowl games, this was added to the total.
The total number of games played by NFL players were sourced from ESPN, while information on NCAA Division I Football Bowl Subdivision athletes was sourced from NCAA Statistics.
